A Weekend Getaway in Williamsburg, VA!
Williamsburg is the perfect weekend getaway destination
for those who live within 100 or 200 miles or so of this Virginia city.
Which means residents of Washington, DC, Norfolk, Virginia Beach,
Richmond, Raleigh, NC, and many other mid-Atlantic communities will be
able to enjoy all the history and charm Williamsburg offers.
Whether you're looking for history, or looking for the perfect Colonial
antique, romantic getaway, or perfect five-star meal, Williamsburg
delivers!
Naturally, any trip to Williamsburg won't be complete without spending
at least some time in the Historic Area of Colonial Williamsburg.
This "living history museum" (the country's largest) is teeming with
American history. Colonial Williamsburg itself has more than 500 public
buildings restored to look much as buildings in the Colonial era did.
Real people ply real trades of Williamsburg's Colonial times --
blacksmiths, tavern keepers, seamstresses, etc -- in Colonial costume,
no less. You can speak with them as they work, allowing them to give you
a glimpse of what day-to-day life was like in the mid- to late 1700s.
You easily could spend two full days exploring Colonial Williamsburg.
Walking among the buildings is free; you'll need to pay an entrance fee
(one-time) to enter some of the more interesting buildings (such as the
Governor's Palace).
Once you've had your fill of days gone by, it's time to move into the
present...and buy presents! For your family, friends. For yourself!
Great small shops, boutiques and retail establishments are plentiful in
and around Williamsburg. Looking for that perfect antique sideboard for
your dining room? You'll probably find it in Williamsburg. Clothing?
Fine gourmet food gifts? Art? Books? Jewelry? All available in shops in
and near Colonial Williamsburg as well as in "modern" Williamsburg's
neighborhoods and districts.
Shopping usually creates a big appetite and you'll definitely be able to
satisfy it in Williamsburg. Why not try some Colonial-era food? Or, if
you prefer fine French, Italian or other European cuisine, you'll find
it here. Hamburgers and fries more to your liking? Williamsburg has some
great hamburger "joints." Thai, Mexican, Indian food -- all here.
If youngsters -- or the young at heart -- figure into your weekend
getaway plans, you can take the thrill seekers among you to Water
Country USA to enjoy Virginia's largest water amusement park or take
a "trip" to Europe via Busch Gardens, which offers visitors the
chance to walk through small European villages, lovingly recreated
within the park's confines.
If you'd like to catch a sporting event during your Williamsburg visit,
check out the schedule for the teams at the College of William and Mary.
If school is in session, there's bound to be a game of some kind being
played on campus.
No matter what you want to do during your Williamsburg weekend
getaway -- whether it's a romantic weekend for two at our bed and
breakfast, or a historic whirlwind visiting all you can at Colonial
Williamsburg, or shopping until you're dropping with your girlfriends -- let us know here at
Liberty Rose. We can help you find what you seek -- or help you discover
places, restaurants and shops that will amaze you.
